Dr. Fred on ADDICTION » Common questions
Q. How do I know if I’m addicted?

A. Addiction has been defined as a "compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance or action characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal".

More broadly, it is considered a "persistent compulsive use of a substance or action known by the user to be harmful".

If this sounds like it fits you in some way, you may be addicted. If you continue to use or do the activity or drug that is implicated, you may be ADDICTED. The best news is that there is assistance available, and support from others has been found repeatedly to be one of the most effective means of assistance.
